Manager/Leader Training is More Important Than Ever

Here in the midst of National Management Training Week, let’s explore the need for training managers and leaders at all levels. As many of us know and have experienced firsthand, managers are often promoted to the role because they were good at their jobs (and sometimes the last ones standing after layoffs, downsizing, or general department exists). Being good at your job is wonderful, and yet it does not always equip you with the knowledge or skills to be a good manager or leader of people.

One of the biggest workplace buzzwords of the last decade is engagement; especially employee engagement, never was this truer than during the pandemic years and the panic of organizations experiencing “quiet quitting”. Gallup’s research discovered that nearly 70% of a team’s engagement is directly influenced by the manager(s) on that team. The big manager/leader skills needed in 2026 and beyond include,

Building Relationships

Developing People

Driving Change

Inspiring People

Critical Thinking

Communicating Clearly, and

Creating Accountability for themselves and others

Beyond engagement, and really, what is beyond that? With engagement managers can count on teams to work through the constant change facing organizations, retain their talent; whether in-person, remote, or hybrid workers, foster innovation and creativity, and as a big plus, reduce their own burnout.

At BrainWorks Institute, we believe all this is possible when the concept of psychological safety is introduced and fostered.  a culture of Psychological Safety is one of the best ways managers can create environments in which all the other skills can occur and grow.  In our Leadership Development series, BrainWorks trains leaders of all levels what Psychological Safety is, what it isn’t and ways to identify when their teams are not feeling it. Understanding the Brain-science of safety allows leaders to catalog their and their team behaviors when safety is lacking and with the tools we teach, provides tangible ways to bring folks back to safety.

When employees feel safe to bring their whole selves to work, not worried about a mistake ruining their reputation or career, where a bad day doesn’t mean being uncooperative, or needing time to contemplate a question or process doesn’t label them difficult or uninterested, they can be free to try new things, offer out-of-the-box suggestions, and be fully engaged in solving the team’s challenges.

Please make a commitment to add training in psychological safety to your organization, BrainWorks Institute is here to help.
